Joel @ 12:01 am + Leadership, Personal Reflections

5 months ago I  was last in Nepal and gave a gift to Udaya & Bhakti, the couple who operate ServLife’s children home in Kathmandu.  Elise actually bought the simple gift at the dollar store,  an orange picnic table cloth.. I gave the gift not thinking of it and wondered if it was to be used.

Well Elise and I came to eat with the family last night and they had prepared a big meal, as usual, for us.   They then brought the orange table cloth down and said they were waiting for us to come before they used it.  I asked them if they had used the table cloth and they said,  “no” - They were waiting for us.

Elise and I both looked at each other and felt so honored by this simple display of friendship, honor, and graciosness.

It made me think about how the simnple things we can do to honor and value others in friendship.  Such simple acts of love or gestures can fill our days to be encouragement to others around us. Whatever and however it is  done, we should seek ways to honor and show value to those in our lives.

Joel @ 11:49 pm + Random Encounters & Experiences

Elise and I were in Delhi a few days ago and sat down and Richard Gere was right next to us.. With his hat on and sunglasses, he hid himself pretty well but we started to talk,  we had a brief chat about Dharlamsalah, India (Tibetan govt in exile)  Tibetan beauty pagent, and India/Nepal - We were on the same flight to Nepal.

Real nice guy…

Joel @ 4:45 pm + Family, Friends

My roots extend deep through many generations in Texas.  Although, I have been out of the state since 1996, I enjoy going back and usually go back several times every year.

It was great to speak and be with a few churches as we all went down for 2 weeks:   Vox church in Austin and Vista Church in Belton  - Also, saw my old friend Don Vanderslice who started Mosaic church in Austin.   Great to go to Waco and see THE BEARS…kids were amazed to see the place where I went to school..

We spent a few days at  a ranch around Bandera.
