A new favorite site for me is ted.com –Great thinkers, doers, and ideas– Jacqueline Novogratz founded and leads Acumen Fund, a nonprofit that takes a businesslike approach to improving the lives of the poor. She’s become a leading voice of the new philanthropy - You have to view this videe and hear her talk here
She states that listening in other cultures is not just about waiting or not speaking but learning how to ask the best questions possible to get the answer from the people in poverty and not alwasy rely on the “money/western” person to give the idea or solution. She also suggests 3 things
- Dignity is more important to the human spirit than wealth
- Traditional Aid & Charity will not solve the problem of Povery
- Markets will not solve the problem of poverty

Daya, my 3 year old daughter, is now really interested in getting married. It is odd b/c we have not talked about it or have gone to a wedding. But she is convinved that she will one day marry the famous Canadian cartoon boy, “Daddy, I want to marry Caillou” she sayd to us often.
I told Daya that Caillou will still have to ask Daddy and get daddy to say “Yes” before she could marry him. She said, “Ok Daddy!”
